After all, the fascination of model making is an inspiring, diverse fund for all branches of model making that not only inspires children, but also has something in store for all generations. What all awaits visitors to the model building event in Friedrichshafen to take part in can be read on the website https://www.faszination-modellbau.de/besucherprogramm/ and here in excerpts:
Premiere of the International Model Railway Exhibition in Friedrichshafen
For the premiere of the International Model Railroad Exhibition in Friedrichshafen, the most classic of all model building sectors will be showing model railroads of all gauges as well as a large selection of innovative and technical accessories in two large exhibition halls. At the top brands in the industry, such as Märklin/LGB/Trix, Rocco/Fleischmann, Piko, Hornby, ESU, Noch, Tillig, BEMO, Faller, Herpa, Viessmann/Kibri/Vollmer, and Brawa, as well as at the booths of the specialized small-series manufacturers, the event audience will receive professional advice and answers to all questions about rolling stock. Up-to-the-minute information on new products and developments presented by experts will be available throughout the trade show in the Model Railroad Forum.
The shining eyes of children are also a classic feature of model trains. Therefore, numerous participatory activities will again be offered especially for them. Market leader Märklin invites visitors to try out its entry-level My World and Start up series on its large play area. The child-friendly locomotives and wagons are easy to handle, offer great play fun from the first moment and promote creativity, motor skills and logical thinking. These skills can also be used at Junior College Europe by the BDEF. At seven stations, children and young people are introduced to independent building and tinkering with model trains by real professionals and can take home the small diorama they have made themselves. Another professional of the first hour is cult moderator Hagen von Ortloff, who will of course be present at the Int. model train exhibition will be there with a model train layout and will sign autographs for his fans.
Cult steam atmosphere for railroad fans
Steam, smoke and fumes waft around the noses of railroad enthusiasts in the two halls of the iconic Echtdampf-Hallentreffen. Steam action of the highest order takes place here with the world’s largest 5 inch and 7 ¼ inch track layout of more than 4 km track length. And the best thing is: little railroad fans and railroad nostalgics can do their rounds on the iconic steam horses together with the participants. A funny feast for the eyes for everyone is also the display of locomobiles and road steam engines with their suitably dressed drivers. This year, even an original steam tractor from 1924 is part of the party. In addition, many thoroughly functional steam models on miniature rails, the platforms and the large water basin impressively show what they are technically capable of.
Superlative model flight show: the FMT “Stars of the Year
Entertainment pure for the experience-hungry public shows the unique FMT Airshow “Stars of the Year” every year at Faszination Modellbau. Multiple award-winning pilots present their phenomenal flying skills and daring air maneuvers in front of the magnificent backdrop of Lake Constance Airport. Among others, Gernot Bruckmann, who is a true multi-talent in model aviation and has made a name for himself worldwide with numerous titles in various classes, as well as the Red Bull Aerobatic team, famous for its precise aerobatics. The German national teams of the competition classes hand launch glider models, remote controlled thermal glider models and electric thermal glider models are also at the start again. Speed records will be set, the most fearless close-to-the-ground acrobatics will be demonstrated, masterful sky stunts will be flown to groovy beats, and helicopter freestyles will amuse flight enthusiasts young and old. Simply gigantic, what the FMT community with its top network together with the team of Faszination Modellbau in Friedrichshafen puts up!
The FMT Indoor Flight Show: Here the imagination gets wings
The FMT indoor action for RC electric model airplanes in the West Foyer of the Friedrichshafen Exhibition Center is a magnet for the public and a hotbed of creativity. Here the most creative minds of the indoor flying scene show what is possible. In the approximately 30×30 m large airfield, they present crazy shows with elaborate, funny flying objects. This year’s repertoire ranges from the Fliwatüüt known from the children’s book, to Lukas the Locomotive Driver, to ultralight helicopters and featherweight hall models. It makes you want to take off, too. And of course, anyone who wants to can do so at Faszination Modellbau. Young and old, beginners as well as professionals can test their flying aptitude at the flight simulator at the booth of the German Model Aviation Association and realistically control many different model aircraft. Or use a remote control to steer a drone through a course in droneball. Building a throwing glider teaches kids about craft skills and how to build a simple flying machine.
Heavy HighLIGHT: Night drive on the truck course
“Lights out, spotlights on!” is the motto on Friday and Saturday from 4:30 p.m. in Truck Hall A4 at Messe Friedrichshafen. Night driving is the order of the day, where the extensive lighting systems of the commercial vehicle models really come into their own and amazement is inevitable for the spectators. Road trucks on the more than 600 square meter truck course show their light functions, construction machines in 1:12 scale warn with flashing beacons, the fire department races to action with blue lights, in the winter landscape snow groomers illuminate the slopes for work, military vehicles are on the road in the bumpy terrain with headlights and show trucks inspire with their light effects. A HighLIGHT in the truest sense of the word! But even with full lighting there is something to offer here, such as the tractor course, where with remote-controlled models the RC driver’s license can be obtained or simply smooth the soil with the bulldozer. On the truck trial, miniature trucks face the difficult off-road course. “Whiteout” is the name of the new program on the snow groomer landscape. Suspense, action and cool music make the show with live moderation once again a blast.
Splashy water action at Faszination Modellbau
Ahoy in Hall A5! Water action at the 400 sqm indoor pool and on the fair lake will once again captivate spectators. There will be jet ski, surf and sailboat races, as well as sea rescue drills. In addition to various show highlights and performances, there will of course be plenty of time for free riding, which is open to all visitors. Speaking of newcomers – this year, too, future model ship builders can earn the extremely popular captain’s certificate directly on site at the fair basin in the children’s driving event. Ambitious shipbuilders can build their own model ship at the “Shipyard for Kids”. The test run in the small pool or at home in the bathtub will show whether it is seaworthy.
Likeable guys, hot tires and a lot of speed
The R2 Builders Club is always especially popular with kids and families, because the droid R2-D2, known from movies and TV, is just cute and a super likeable guy. Want a selfie? He and his robot buddies are available for pictures around the clock. But the little robot also incorporates many different manufacturing processes, electronics and various materials. What these are and how to use them, you can learn from the builders personally directly at the booth.
The racing drones with their small, powerful electric drives also have sophisticated technology and a lot of speed to boot. With whirring sound, they shoot through the obstacle-filled, treacherous course to earn a spot on the winner’s podium at the Drone Championship Finals.
Already for the fourth time the Devil Drift Crew will compete with their top models at the biggest modelling event in Europe. The drivers do not race against each other, but as a team in order to put on a fascinating show for the spectators. Quite the opposite of the German Open Car Masters. Here, every millimeter on the race track is fought hard for victory in one of the seven racing classes. RC action to try out for yourself is available at the Race of Champions and at the Carrera Revell stand. On the obstacle-laden track, the RC car must be skillfully controlled or you can simply test cool stunt functions. In addition, Carrera fans can race various vehicles with hot tires on a Carrera racetrack.
